Theme(s): From the Diaspora: Identitie, Hybridism and Difference
Eligibility: Open to all
The term diaspora defines the migratory movement of peoples – usually forced and sometimes traumatic. From the biblical narrative of the exodus of the Hebrews led by Moses to the current wave of migration, where peoples of the so-called "global south" place mobility as a global demand and therein lies the diaspora.
The UNHCR estimates that every three seconds, a person somewhere in the world is forced to leave their home. The number gives dimension to the theme and highlights the areas of contact caused by these new shares of attendance and absences.
We understand that contemporary exiles cross daily dimensions of spaces and times to reopen past and to weave new possibilities of narratives before old national identities.
With the title Diaspora: Identitie, Hybridity and Difference, the 12th edition of the International Photography Festival of Porto Alegre proposes a program focused on the reflection on the impact of current migratory flows on contemporary photographic production, as well as being an environment for works exploring themes related to social, political and cultural displacements. The displacement of the physical house, the emotional house, the cultural house, the environmental house, the religious house. We want you to send us your work and help us build the debate on this theme that is central to societies around the world.
The Call is open to all photographers and photographers from all over the world. Twenty finalists will be selected, who will be awarded a prize, tickets and lodging to participate in the festival and a Free Passport to participate in the International Platform for Portfolio Reviews 2019.
The top 10 will have their work published and reviewed on the Blog of FestFoto during 2019. During the selection process we will also be displaying on our website a gallery with entries that have caught the attention of our jury.
