For the first time, a global conference is being held online with a focus on educating and inspiring participants on photography as fine art.
The Art of Photography Conference brings together a roster of renowned photographic artists, based in the UK and US, to an international audience of photography enthusiasts ranging from amateur to working pros. Participants can join the event online from anywhere in the world.
The full-day event spans 12 hours to accommodate guests and speakers joining from many time zones across Europe to the West Coast of America. The format of the conference is based mainly around presentations given by invited speakers. 17 individual sessions will be presented to cover a wide variety of photographic subjects, ranging from landscape, nature and abstract photography to traditional photographic processes and developing one's creative practice and business strategies. Each 60-minute session will include a live question-and-answer period so conference attendees can interact directly with the speakers. Additionally, a crucial element of the programme is that all sessions will be recorded so attendees will be able to view the recordings for 30 days following the event.
The Art of Photography Conference was conceived, and is being produced, by Ruth and Nat Coalson, owners of Gallery Photiq in Leamington Spa, UK, largely in response to the nationwide lockdown in England due to the coronavirus pandemic. "We'd talked about doing an online event for a while, but when we had to close the gallery because of the lockdown, we realised it's the right time to organise this kind of gathering," stated Nat Coalson, himself a successful photographic artist and the event's keynote speaker. "Dedicated artists and lovers of photography have struggled to find sources of education and inspiration because nobody is hosting workshops these days, and the international trade shows have been postponed indefinitely. The virtual conference is a concept whose time has come."
David Noton, a highly acclaimed landscape photographer based in the UK, echoes these sentiments when he says, "I'm pleased to have the opportunity to present my celebration of the pure joy of photography at the Art of Photography Conference. Such events have become a real lifeline to all of us in the photographic world."
The Coalsons, a married couple who have developed numerous creative businesses together, are keen proponents of photography as an important category of fine art. Their gallery, Photiq, has also participated in international fairs and exhibitions but The Art of Photography Conference is unique in its combination of inspiration and education.
National Geographic photographer Nevada Wier, who is based in New Mexico, USA, will present a talk on infrared photography. She relates, "I love that I am creating an image of a subject that I can see…but rendering in light that that is invisible to my eyes; mildly surreal and metaphysical. The resulting photographs are truly visual poetry. And I am very excited to be sharing my creative journey with the Art of Photography Conference."
The Art of Photography Conference will be held Saturday, 17th April 2021 from 10 am till 10 pm British Summer Time. The event is open to the public and tickets are available for purchase now at the event website.
