Milan, Italy
miart
April 8, 2016 to April 10, 2016

Milan, Italy
miart is a fair in which modern and contemporary art communicate constant references with explicit echoes; it affords a situation to grasp links between the past and present. miart will emphasize this aspect aspiring to work on the possibility of testing institutional strategies that differ from existing models, the aim being to set out along a path in which miart plays an active role in modern and contemporary production throughout the entire year, not just during the days of the art fair. In this way, miart will turn into a recipient of contexts, nurturing structures and varied experiences that connect the cultural and economic fabric of Milan to leading international organizations. The sections of the fair and parallel events will be held with principal focus on the “crossing” of different disciplines, with the desire being to intercept the public from other areas. The goal is to find a suitable area in the field of communication between knowledge and a place of “trade” that is also a place for a real cultural experience, based on the theory of “the Economics of Experiences,” in which the production of goods and services is no longer sufficient, and the “experiences” offered become the basis of value creation.

VOLTA NY
March 1, 2017 to March 5, 2017
82 Mercer Street
New York - NY 10012
VOLTA NY is the invitational fair of solo artist projects and is the American incarnation of the original Basel VOLTA show, which was founded in 2005 by three art dealers as a fair "by galleries, for galleries". Since its debut in New York in 2008, Artistic Director Amanda Coulson re-conceived the format as a rigorously curated, boutique event — along the lines of a sequence of intense studio visits versus a traditional trade show environment. Since then VOLTA NY showcases relevant contemporary art positions from emerging international artists, from cutting-edge trendsetters to next year’s rising stars. Coupled with its approachable solo-booth format, the VOLTA team has created a fair that is both accessible to younger art-lovers and beloved by seasoned collectors alike. By spotlighting artists through primarily solo projects, VOLTA NY refocuses the art fair experience back to its most fundamental point: the artists and their works. A beacon for creative discovery during Armory Arts Week, VOLTA NY is likewise aligned with some of the best and boldest local cuisine and design collaborators in the city. Although the roots of Outsider Art can be traced back thousands of years, it is most useful to look back to its most recent precursor, art brut (Raw Art) to hear the most vital articulations of its true spirit. In his 1947 manifesto, French artist and curator Jean Dubuffet coined the term art brut as follows: "We understand by this term works produced by persons unscathed by artistic culture, where mimicry plays little or no part (contrary to the activities of intellectuals). These artists derive everything...from their own depths, and not from the conventions of classical or fashionable art."
