Announcing the Winner of the Photographer of the Week – Week 05, 2025

From a series of images created on Day of the Dead in Guatemala. Each year, on the first Saturday of November, Guatemalans come together for a solemn procession to honor their deceased loved ones. A large float bearing the image of Jesus' lifeless body, mourned by the Virgin Mary and attended by the angel Gabriel, is carried through the cobblestone streets of Antigua by devoted men and women. The procession, a beautiful blend of Mayan and Catholic tradition, is accompanied by musicians playing mournful dirges and robed marchers with incense spreaders, creating a somber atmosphere of reverence for the spirits of the ancestors.
